the Horizon breath
The power of the breath to overcome hesitation and connect you with your truth
The power of the breath to overcome hesitation and connect you with your truth
To begin, sit in a comfortable cross-legged position or in a chair. Lengthen your spine and feel the crown of your head extending up toward the sky. Relax your shoulders, close your eyes, and take a few moments to observe your breath.
Take a few slow, deep, natural breaths through your nose. Allow yourself to relax. Inhale and let your belly expand. Exhale and draw your belly in. Now place your thumbs in the entrances to your ears and spread your fingers so that the tips rest on the top of your head. Breathe in deeply.
As you breathe out, make the sound of AHH: feel it vibrating at the base of your spine. Then OHH: feel the vibration moving up to your heart. Finally, plug your ears and draw your fingers slightly apart as you make the sound of MMM, feeling the vibration in your skull. Imagine the vibration in your skull radiating outward, as if the crown of your head were opening up to connect to the Universe.
This is the sound of OM. The AHH, OHH, and MMM should be three equal parts of one exhalation, held for as long as is comfortable for you. At the end of the exhalation allow yourself to sit in silence for an equal part as well, feeling the oneness at the core of your being.
To end this session, return to normal breathing while keeping your eyes closed. When you feel ready, open your eyes. As you practice the Horizon breath this month ask yourself:

What fears do you notice dissolving as you practice the Horizon breath?
What other changes in your body/mind/spirit do you notice?
Practice the Horizon breath everyday for a few weeks and notice how you feel when making decisions after you practice. You may find it helpful to keep a journal of what you feel like before, during and after each breathing session.
These breathing exercises are highlighted from the book Breathing Space by Katrina Repka and Alan Finger. They are gentle and safe, but please check in with yourself and follow your own intuition before doing them.
